‘We are torn between a nostalgia for the familiar and an urge for the foreign and strange. As often as not, we are homesick for the places we have never known.’

- Carson McCullers

Started in 2017 by Yaniv Chen, Master sets out to create spaces of nostalgia; interiors that link past and present. We find beauty in the imperfect. Our principle is to create interiors that are sacred, not precious. We believe chairs should be sat on, objects touched and books paged through.

We care more about how people feel in a space, than strictly the aesthetics of the space itself. Aesthetics are important, but more in relation to the way they make someone feel than merely the way they look.

Making a distinction between public and private spaces. In private spaces, such as homes, we focus mostly on the framework. Joinery, wall details, lighting and the vessel itself. Homes are personal, and for a space to feel personal it needs personal things. We feel that sharply curated homes are soulless and empty. We source and advise in the more decorative elements, However we encourage our clients to have this happen gradually over time.

Warmth first and foremost. The various ways in which this translates, have become a theme throughout our work. Warmth can relate to texture, lighting and ornament. Our natural style is humble and pared-down, but that is not to say we don’t appreciate ornamentation, color and whimsy.
